「あ、気をつけて!」みたいなニュアンスで、とっさに注意を促すときによく使います。

Be careful! よりも瞬発的な表現なので、会話では Watch out! の方が主流かな?

アクション映画やSF 映画ではガンガン出てきますよ〜♪


「watch」はもともと、「動くものを見る」時に使われる動詞で、「注意をそらさずじっと見る」ということから「注意する」「用心する」といった意味になります。

こんなシチュエーションがピッタリ:

Cindy: Watch out! A bike is behind you!

(シンディ: 気を付けて! 後ろに自転車よ!)

Melissa: Oops! He should have slowed down.

(メリッサ: おっと。彼、もっと速度落とすべだわ!)


※ bike は自転車(オートバイは motorcycle です)
